According to The Hollywood Reporter Simon Pegg (Shaun Of The Dead, Spaced, Star Trek) is in negotiations for a role in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, the sci-fi adventure movie set in the future but based on a virtual game influenced by the games, TV, music and films of the ’80s. So Pegg should feel right at home having had his formative cultural education in that era.

He’s up for the role of Ogden Morrow (though Hollywood Reporter has the name as Orgen Morrow, which could be a typo or could be an indication the script changes the name). He’s the co-creator of a massive virtual world called Oasis that dominates the world of the future. He’s fellow creator, James Halliday, is the Willy Wonka style millionaire genius whose death triggers the event of the story when he leaves behind a fiendish game, the winner of which will inherit his fortune.
BUZZ actually thinks Pegg would be better for the Halliday role – he may be dead by the time the movie starts, but he keeps cropping up in virtual form in the book so it would have still been a meaty supporting role. At least Odgen gets to interact with real people.
The Ready Player One cast already includes Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cook and Ben Mendelsohn. It is currently set to be release in March 2018.
Just seen a little kid go by on a bike with an odd-shaped passenger in the front basket? If you’re in London, you are not hallucinating. If you’re anywhere else, call the boss and tell them you’re not coming in today.
Universal Pictures is celebrating the release of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial on Blu-ray today by sending out 10 cyclists onto the streets of London dressed in red hoodies with a certain special passenger in their basket.
For your chance to win a copy of the E.T. The Extra Terrestrial 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray, simply take a photo of one of these cyclists and tweet it along with the phrase #ETBluray.
Universal will pick one winner every hour from 9am until 3pm.
New bonus features on the Blu-ray include:
Danbo, a cardboard robot from Kiyohiko Azuma’s manga Yotsuba&!, has made a special appearance in a TV advert to promote the Blu-ray release of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws in Japan.
The Blu-ray was released by Geneon Universal Entertainment in Japan yesterday, and it is the first time that a Japanese character has been officially used to promote Spielberg’s work.
