First Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission Trailer

The first trailer for Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission has been released. Production of this second film was announced at the end of the first spin-off film, Hunter X Hunter: Phantom Rouge. The film will premiere in Japan on 27 December.

The film, adapted from Yoshiro Togashi’s manga, focuses on the dark history of the strongest Hunters in the Hunter Association that were either “light” or “dark”. The dark Hunters have started to massacre all the Hunters, and Killua and Kurapika are both injured in the violence. There is also a dark secret behind Netero, the strongest Nen-user and the chairman of the Hunter Association.

Death Billiards video short: Madhouse previews anime

Anime Studio Madhouse (Hunter x Hunter) has released its first preview of Death Billiards, the studio’s submission to the Anime Mirai short animation anthology. The story follows two men, who find themselves playing for their lives in a game of billiards.

Death Billiards is directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa (Steins;Gate, Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine), and is produced by Takuya Tsunoki (Chihayafuru, Casshern Sins).

The Anime Mirai program is funded by government’s Agency for Cultural Affairs; in collaboration with the Japan Animation Creators Association (JAniCA), the Anime Mirai funds studios to train young animators on-the-job. Death Billiards is one of four animations of the anthology; the others are Little Witch Academia by Studio Trigger, Aruvu Rezuru – Mechanized Fairies by ZEXCS and Ryo by Gonzo. The shorts will be released in Japanese cinemas on 2 March.

Second Hunter X Hunter Film Announced

Audience members who waited until after the end credits of the recent Hunter X Hunter: Phantom Rouge cinematic release will have been nicely surprised to see a sneak preview of a second Hunter X Hunter film. The teaser featured Netero, the chairman of the Hunters Association, in front of a backdrop of a dimly lit street and the Heavens Arena fighting tower.

No other details about the second film were announced, but the production has been green-lit and the project is clearly already in the works.

Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge focuses on the character Kurapika, who became a Hunter to exact his revenge on the Phantom Troupe for massacring his clan. The Kurta Clan that Kurapika belonged to was targeted because of their eyes, which turn scarlet red in times of anger or emotional agitation. The plot of Phantom Rouge involves Kurapika’s eyes being stolen; in his quest to get them back, the true identity of the person with the number 4 spider tattoo will be revealed. 

New Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge Trailer

A third preview of the upcoming Hunter x Hunter film has been released. Based on the manga by Yoshihiro Togashi and the subsequent anime directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Rurouni Kenshin), Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge focuses on the character Kurapika, who became a Hunter to exact his revenge on the Phantom Troupe for massacring his clan. The Kurta Clan that Kurapika belonged to was targeted because of their eyes, which turn scarlet red in times of anger or emotional agitation.
