Carrie Fisher will appear in Star Wars Episode IX as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter. Todd Fisher, her brother and Billie Lourd, her daughter have given permission for footage shot for The Last Jedi to be included in the upcoming movie. It’s unclear as yet whether this will continue her plot from The Last Jedi or whether sequences intended for Episode IX were shot during The Last Jedi‘s production.
There’s never a good way to deal with the passing of anyone, let alone someone as beloved as Fisher was but this really looks like its being carried out with the maximum possible respect. The studio have confirmed there will be no CGI replacement for her so Fisher’s final work really will all be up on screen. What role or significance they’ll play we won’t know for a long time. What we do know is that one of the most loved actresses and characters of modern cinema history will be given the send off they both richly deserve.
The Last Jedi will be released 15 December 2017
