New Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge Trailer

A third preview of the upcoming Hunter x Hunter film has been released. Based on the manga by Yoshihiro Togashi and the subsequent anime directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Rurouni Kenshin), Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge focuses on the character Kurapika, who became a Hunter to exact his revenge on the Phantom Troupe for massacring his clan. The Kurta Clan that Kurapika belonged to was targeted because of their eyes, which turn scarlet red in times of anger or emotional agitation. The plot of Phantom Rouge involves Kurapika’s eyes being stolen; in his quest to get them back, the true identity of the person with the number 4 spider tattoo will be revealed. The film will be out in Japan on 12 January 2013.

Latest Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo Trailer

The latest trailer for the Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo film has been streamed. The third film in four-part remake of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series, it will be released in Japan on 17 November.

The film is directed and written by Hideaki Anno and features many of the original voice cast from the anime series. The previous installments were Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone and Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance, the final film is aptly named Evangelion: Final.

Jesus and Buddha Have Been Cast for Saint Young Men Anime Film

The voice acting roles for Jesus and Buddha in the film adaptation of Hikaru Nakamura’s comedy manga Saint Young Men have been cast. Newcomers to the anime genre, Mirai Moriyama (Crying Out Love in the Center of the World) and Gen Hoshino (Akihabara@Deep) will voice the characters of Jesus and Buddha respectively.

The story centres around these two religious figures, who share a low-rent apartment in Tokyo’s Tachikawa neighbourhood. Noriko Takao (Full Metal Panic!) will be directing the film at A-1 Pictures with a script produced by Rika Nezu (Kimi ni Todoke: The Movie). Animator Naoyuki Asano (last 4 Doraemon films) will be handling the character design.

The film will be released in Japan next spring; although, an OVA will be released on DVD bundled with the manga’s eighth volume on 3 December.

Sci-Fi London Festival Announces Anime All-Nighter

Director of the Sci-Fi London festival, Louis Savy, announced the line-up of the Anime All-Nighter on Facebook. The event will take place on Saturday 10 November, as part of the Sci-Fi London 2012 from the 9 to 11 November.

The 5 films being shown are:

  • Tiger and Bunny: The Beginning
  • Journey to Agartha – The Children Who Chase Lost Voices
  • Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike
  • GYO: Tokyo Fish Attack
  • Gintama: The Movie

The all-nighter will take place at the Picturehouse Cinema in Stratford. Tickets will be available next week.

Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki Decorates a Jetliner for JAL

Japan Airlines (JAL) and Studio Ghibli have unveiled the Boeing 787 jetliner decorated by Ghibli founder Hiyao Miyazaki and seven children, who were the winners of a children’s art contest at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. The collaboration between Ghibli and JAL was made after the Ghibli film Porco Rosso and the art competition took place from 2007 to 2008 to decorate the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. However, Boeing delayed the delivery of the aircraft by five years and JAL filed for bankruptcy in 2010, the airline therefore had to wait until now to unveil the designs, which were part of its Sora o Tobu (Fly the Skies) Project. 

As part of its Fly the Skies Project, JAL flights will screen Porco Rosso and the rare 2002 animated short by Miyazaki, Kūsō no Sora Tobu Kikai-tachi (The Machines that Fly the Skies of Dreams). The short is not only directed Miyazaki, but is also narrated by him.

Berserk: The Golden Age Arc International Trailer: New Footage

An international trailer for the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc trilogy has been released on its official website. The trailer features new footage of the upcoming Berserk Golden Age Arc III: Descent, which is set for release in January 2013.

Viz Media will be releasing an English dub of the first film, Berserk Golden Age Arc I: The Egg of the King, on its Neon Alley service on PS3 this autumn. The film will later be released on Blu-ray/DVD on 27 November.

Ufotable Makes Magical Girl Anime Majocca Classical: Watch the Trailer

At Tokushima City’s Machi Asobi event this weekend, the anime studio ufotable announced that it is collaborating with King Records’ Starchild label on a new anime film. The story follows two sisters who are magical girls. However, the plans for the film, as well as its title Majocca Classical (Traditional Magical Fantasy) are uncertain at the moment.

Leeds Hosts Anime Screening on 11 November

The line-up of anime films for the “Fanomenon Anime Day 2012” in Leeds on Sunday November 11 has been announced.

12.00 noon – Asura

1.45 p.m. – The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki. This film will be also screened in Leeds on Saturday 17 November.

4.15 p.m. – Tiger & Bunny: The Beginning

6.45p.m. – Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I – The Egg of the King

8.30 p.m. – Berserk: The Golden Age Arc II – The Battle for Doldrey.

Tickets for the Anime Day are available here, costing £15 or £12.50 concessions for the entire event. Tickets for the individual films will be available from October 5, costing £7 or £5.50 concessions.

Upcoming 3D Anime Film 009 RE:CYBORG Gets Trailer

A full trailer of the upcoming anime film 009 RE:CYBORG has been released on the official You Tube channel. The trailer introduces the voices of Cyborg 002 (Daisuke Ono), 003 (Chiwa Saito), 004 (Toru Ohkawa), as well as the first glimpse of the cyborgs’ progenitor Dr. Gilmore.

The film will open in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea on 27 October.

The story is set in 2013 when skyscrapers in London, Moscow, Berlin, and New York are destroyed by simultaneous bombings. The indiscriminate terrorism by an unknown group with unknown motives, who set off a world-wide panic. A group of nine cyborg fighters who used to rescue humanity from threats are called on again by their creator Dr. Gilmore to uncover the group and capture those responsible.

Directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Eden of the EastGhost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex), the film will be released in 3D and is based on Shotaro Ishinomori’s classic sci-fi manga Cyborg 009.

Star Driver the Movie Teaser Trailer Released

A teaser trailer for the upcoming release of Star Driver the Movie was uploaded on the film’s official website

The film will open in Japan on 9 February 2013. Described on the website as a “new construction” of the Star Driver Kagayaki no Takuto story, the film will focus on the fates of Takuto, Wako, and Sugata; the film will also have an all-new section about their lives set after the story of the television series.

The website confirms that many of the crew behind the TV series will be working on the film, including director Takuya Igarashi, scriptwriter Yoji Enokido and the original character designers Hiroka Mizuya and Misa Mizuya. Similarly, the main cast will also be returning.
